I don't know about you, but ever since Thanksgiving, I've found it really hard to get exercise in. This week, in fact, I didn't exercise at all.Last Sunday I went and lifted weights and was sore all week long. I must have pushed it a little too much! But between the death of my best friend's mom (which I wrote about on my other blog, if you want to read about it), a whole lot of work/extracurricular stuff, and getting ready for Christmas, I haven't been able to drag my butt into gear.
Mr.'s hip has pretty much recovered, so he went to his personal trainer Thursday afternoon, again on Friday, and he's even there right now (amidst heaps of fresh snow!) Go, Mr.! Perhaps I could use the extra motivation and discipline of a trainer right now. It's so easy to tell myself, "I'm too busy, tired, etc." and not go.
Tonight is my company's holiday party, so I'm going to get my hair done all fancy-like at noon. Before that, I hope to make it to the Y for a good old-fashioned sweat-a-thon, followed by a shower. At least I'll feel like the week wasn't a complete wash. Sunday and Saturday workouts -- better than none!
How do you motivate yourself to stay fit during the holidays? Any magic solutions?

I have to exercise first thing in the morning, and I do mean first thing. If I don't it won't happen.
Do you try and set a specific time every day to exercise ?
I'm enjoying walking the kids to school-brisk mornings feel good, and I make a mental to-do list for the day. Even if I can't walk long I know that I at least got moving a little bit. Good luck!
I agree, going first thing in the morning is the only way to guarantee you'll do it. I've also decided to change things up to make it more interesting. For instance, rather than jogging for a mile, I'm running fast on the straightaways of the track and walking around the corners. Plus using some different weight machines. So add consistency in timing and take it away to keep things interesting during the actual workout.
We gotta get together. I feel so bad about not touching base after the death you went through.
Time's flying by too fast - I'm thinking of you!
Susan, seeing the "before" and "after" photos side by side is stunning. You've really made this year count, and it should go without saying you look great. Re miracles, I look at staying active during the holidays as one of the few consistent elements to my daily routine. With all the family get-togethers, dinners, travel, and so on, working out keeps me grounded, makes food taste better, and gives me a mini-reprieve from family members. And with all the time off, I have much more time to do it.
