Weekly Weigh-in: Four Pounds?! Really?!

This past week was a doozy. I knew I'd probably see some gain, based on post-Easter candy consumption and an anniversary weekend away with Mr. But 4 freakin' pounds?! Jesus. That is not right. Not right at all.

Jay (currently on a "break")
Starting weight: 301 pounds
Current weight: ??? pounds
Pounds lost this week: ? pounds
Total pounds lost: ? pounds

Susan
Starting weight: 238 pounds
Current weight: 195.5 pounds
Pounds lost this week: (4) pounds
Total pounds lost: 42.5 pounds

I am bummed. Yet not motivated enough to hit the gym and jiggle my ever-growing belly on the treadmill. Just enough to opt for the Lean Cuisine lunch instead of chicken salad sandwich from the corner deli.

Ugh. I know being pregnant is no excuse for overeating, but damn it's hard. This baby makes me ravenous all the time, not to mention tired as hell after a long day of work and home stuff. I just want to hang on to some semblance of "fit" for the next three months as best I can, so the road to my goal isn't as long starting in August.

Sorry about the gain. My dh went through a period of slight gains, but eventually the weight started coming off again. You'll be okay.

If someone had said this to me when i was pregnant with number two, I probably would have grabbed them by the neck, but I was truly and completely unprepared for how much my butt was going to be kicked by baby number 2. With a busy 3.5 year old who had her music class and her preschool and her birthday parties to be shuttled to, and with two book projects with unforgiving deadlines- OH MY GOD what a difference it would have made to be somewhat fit stepping into that firestorm. As tired as you are now (and I after carrying a 10lb, active boy, I can truly relate) it gets no easier once he's out of you. So while you are bagged at night, there is only one little munchkin to bathe and but to bed. I regret so much not embracing that relative freedom and getting some momentum before he came along, because he is 19 months old now and I am ONLY NOW starting to feel like a regular human being again and slowly getting back on track (with an extra 20lbs since his birth to boot).

You'll do great either way, I know you will. But definitely don't throw in the towel thinking "I'll get active again once the baby is out".

And with that I will go back to trying not to stress eat and facebookcrastinate b/c of a deadline I have tomorrow :)

Dana, your advice is very sound. I can't imagine how much my butt will be kicked, but I know it will be a lot. I absolutely need to prep myself now while I "only" have one kiddo!

Yep, even a little time on the treadmill will help-it will be part of your routine and you will crave it after baby so you won't get behind. I know it's hard to find the motivation (coming from me who only has hindsight on this) but it would definitely be worth it!
