Weekly Weigh-in: This Baby Is Growing!

If you've seen me lately, you can tell that I am clearly pregnant. (Note Easter Bunny photo at right, taken on Saturday.) No hiding it under baggy clothes or even aprons anymore. Even my 6-year-old nephew noticed at Easter dinner! And apparently, the scale noticed, too.

Jay
Starting weight: 301 pounds
Current weight: ??? pounds
Pounds lost this week: ? pounds
Total pounds lost: ? pounds

Susan
Starting weight: 238 pounds
Current weight: 191.5 pounds
Pounds lost this week: (2) pounds
Total pounds lost: 46.5 pounds

I may have overindulged a bit in the Easter candy ("one for the basket, one for me, one for the basket ...") but I also read in my BabyCenter weekly email that at this stage, baby's putting on "baby fat." Could that account for 2 whole pounds? Probably not.

I will continue to be as active as I can and seize on every "healthy" craving I have (fruit and veggies). As for Mr., he's under the weather with a cold and not in the mood to discuss fitness.

I have a question for you- were you heavier during your first pregnancy? I've only been pregnant when I was already quite overweight. I'd like to have one more child, but I want to wait until I lose about 50lbs or more before trying again. I am looking forward to not having the extra bulk during and immediately after the pregnancy. I found it to be horribly uncomfortable and it made me very sad to be so overweight. I guess I am asking- how does it feel this time? Is it great?

Thanks, HM. As always, you are a great cheerleader. Dana, yes, I was much heavier during my last pregnancy. I started last time around 200 lbs, went up to around 239 by the end. So I definitely feel much lighter and fitter this time around, and it helps. I just want to limit my gain as much as I can so I don't have THAT far to go when it's time to lose the baby weight. I imagine it will still be 50 lbs or so.

You look great! Its so hard not to use pregnancy as an excuse to eat all the good stuff. You are doing so well!

Wow. To think that you are still almost 10lbs lighter more than halfway through than you were when you began last time- that's awesome! When I had my second, I remember sitting there torn between marveling at the gorgeous sight of this newborn babe to kicking myself for not going to exercise even once or twice a week while I was pregnant, and even more upset with myself for not taking off SOME of the weight before getting pregnant again. For me, the first year with the newborn is harder than pregnancy- I tend to deal with late nights/early mornings/work juggling by self medicating with carbs and chocolate. By the time he was 3 months old, I had put on about 20lbs additional. So here I am, staring down the barrel of _really_ needing to lose about 100 if I am totally honest, though I'd be happy with 50-60 for the moment. Seems like an impossible task, but something I have learned from reading your journal is that the years will go by anyway, so SO WHAT if it takes me a year or more to get closer to my goal. So WHAT if it takes 3 years. I can't lose weight on some kind of a bender, its about making a decision with every meal and choosing to exercise more days that not.

Thanks for letting me vent. (Up with an ear infection baby. He's asleep now, so I am thinking I will just head to the gym now instead of going back to sleep for an hour!)

You look great, by the way.
